Discovering and understanding biodiversity
Besançon Natural History Museum houses a huge variety of animal species that perfectly illustrate the biodiversity of all the earth's continents. Nowhere else in France is it possible to see such a wide variety of animals in the same place!
The species are exhibited in six different areas: the Zoo (Jardin zoologique), Farm (P’tite ferme), Insectarium, Aquarium, Noctarium and Evolution Trail (Parcours de l’évolution). Their purpose is not only to entertain visitors to the Citadel, these collections also fulfil three important objectives of the Natural History Museum: conservation of endangered animal species, research and education.
