The Citadel of Besançon, designed by Vauban and a masterpiece
of the XVII century, is the premier tourist destination of the Franche-Comté.
This magnificently restored fortress houses several museums as well
as a large number of animal enclosures.

Unique and unexpected, the Museum of Besançon displays very
varied naturalized and living collections. It illustrates in an
original way, a way that is extremely unusual in France, the diversity
of life.

Birds Section
|
12 aviaries nestling alongside the primates and big cats
are home to around 30 different species : aquatic birds
(ibises, flamingos, swans, etc.), large parrot species
(blue and yellow macaws, Gabonese grey parrots, and so
on) and exotic birds (Alexandrine parakeets, Mollucan
cockatoos...). You can watch over 100 flamboyantly coloured
birds and the installation of a fog system next to certain
aviaries to intermittently reproduce the humid atmosphere
of their native tropical rainforests. |
