A historical reenactment at the Citadel!
An exceptional Grand Siècle weekend this year: welcome to 1683! Louis XIV is coming to watch the cadets train and see the completion of the citadel. Immerse yourself in the daily life of the Citadel at that time and discover the many colorful characters who lived there. Actors, singers, reenactment groups, and artisans will be on hand to set the time machine in motion!
Throughout the weekend, visitors can:
• Observe the meticulous work of artisans (blacksmiths, saddlers, tailors, etc.) in the courtyard of the arsenal
Be captivated by the characters wandering around Saint-Étienne Park
• Watch various skits illustrating daily life in the citadel at the time
• Listen to stories in the barracks
• Watch shooting demonstrations
• Enjoy tavern scenes with music
• Enjoy a traditional 17th-century meal
Fridays only:
• Introduction to fencing, dancing, and stone cutting
• Short carriage rides available on request from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday only:
The two main days of the event immerse the audience in even richer and more varied entertainment:
• Arrival of the King and his entourage, followed by formal ceremonies, demonstrations, and equestrian displays
• Period wedding in the chapel, several times a day
• Military encampment with cannon display
